Why did I choose to study Japanese?
Some of my favorite shows I watched on television as a kid were Sailor Moon and Pokémon ; as for movies, it was hands-down all of the Studio Ghibli/Hayao Miyzaki films. Since then, I have grown to love and appreciate all the awesome aspects of the Japanese culture. The anime created is unlike any other type of cartoon I have seen and the cuisine always makes my stomach happy. So much so that I one day want to travel there. As a student at Columbia, a goal of mine is to study abroad in Japan and understand and experience the culture first-hand. Back home, I am spoken to with a mixture of three Filipino dialects: Tagalog, Ilocano, and Visayan. I find comfort in hearing my family's language and I can only feel enthusiastic to exposing myself to more Asian languages. By taking Japanese, I am excited to further my linguistic skills and just have fun with others learning it! *Picture above is me studying for the "presents" Nazikian sensei gives us each class >_<*...
